Chuck joined Northcoast Research in May 2009 as Managing Director, Principal, and Equity Research Analyst covering the Food Marketing, Specialty Retail and Wholesale Club sectors. Prior to joining Northcoast Research, Chuck was with FTN Midwest Securities from 2006-2009, KeyBanc Capital Markets from 1998-2006, Tucker Anthony from 1992-1998, where he was Director of Research from 1996-1998, Kemper Securities from 1985-1992, and Roulston Research from 1979-1985.
Chuck’s proprietary research methods include his Retail Momentum Index, Industrial Coatings Contractor Survey, Independent Farm Store Survey. He and his team have developed an extensive network of high-level industry contacts over the years, which allows him to ascertain shifts in consumer trends and industry competitive dynamics early. These include active and retired senior executives from the food retail, distribution, and manufacturing industries, independent and cooperative farm store managers, industrial and commercial paint contractors.
Chuck has been selected as an Institutional Investor All-American among regional firms, and as a top analyst numerous times by the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Thompson Reuters/StarMine. Most recently, Thompson Reuters/StarMine recognized Chuck as the #2 Stock Picker nationally in the Food & Staples Retailing sector for 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, and 2011.
In addition to providing proprietary equity research and custom research data to institutional investors, Chuck has been quoted, and has had his work cited, by a number of media outlets including Supermarket News, Progressive Grocer, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, CNBC, Money Magazine, Forbes, and Consumer Reports. He also has presented his research findings to various corporate management teams, including Kroger and Sherwin Williams, and the Private Label Manufacturers Association.
