TOM HAYES
Managing Director, SENIOR Equity Research Analyst
Tom joined Northcoast Research in August 2014 as a Managing Director and Senior Research Analyst covering the Industrial sector. Prior to joining Northcoast Research, Tom spent two years as a Senior Research Analyst at Thompson Research Group covering Industrial Machinery and Diversified Industrial companies, and five years at Piper Jaffray, where he developed an Industrial Sector platform focused on Industrial Distribution, Building Products, Machinery, Industrial Services, Industrial Technology, and Diversified Manufacturing. Prior to becoming a sell-side equity analyst, Tom spent 15 years in the industrial distribution and building products industry, including 10 years with Airgas, where he led the Company’s vendor-managed inventory initiative for the Distribution business from 1999-2000, managed inventory and purchasing for a five state region from 1996-1999, supply chain management for the U.S. business from 1992-1999, and was Regional Business Analyst responsible for financial planning and analysis for the Western U.S. Region from 1989-1992.
Through both his personal experience and ongoing research, Tom and his team have developed a vast array of industry contacts to draw from, including engineers, product specialists and marketing executives at a significant number of privately held and public manufacturing companies. Tom also maintains high-level contacts at more than 150 privately held North American welding distributors that enable him to track industry dynamics for each of his industry verticals, in addition to pricing trends for a key basket of welding equipment, tools, and supplies on a monthly basis. In addition to providing proprietary equity research and custom research data to institutional investors, Tom has presented his research findings to the Minnesota Road Pavers Association.
